Easy Care
Warther kitchen knives are made from high carbon stain resistant American tool steel. They are tempered and hand ground to provide lasting sharpness with occasional use of a honing stone or sharpening steel.
Easy Sharpening
To sharpen your Warther kitchen knives use a stone, steel or ceramic sharpener. The preferred angle between the blade and the steel is 22 degrees. Always start at the rear of the blade and move to the tip, drawing the knife across as if to shave a layer of the sharpener away. It is best to follow the instructions provided with your hand-sharpening device. A fine grit honing stone or ceramic sharpener works great! Any hand sharpener will work well that requires the user to manually draw the knife across the material and are preferable to electric sharpeners.
After numerous manual sharpening, eventually the kitchen knives will need to be professionally sharpened. Check with your local hardware store, meat market, or grocery store to see if they provide a sharpening service. Be sure they are not using an electric sharpener where they just pull the kitchen knives through a machine. If you can't find someone in your area to sharpen the kitchen knives, you may bring them to our factory in Dover, OH. or mail them to us. We don't charge for sharpening Warther kitchen knives; however, there will be a shipping and handling fee see shipping instructions.
Keep Your Knives Clean
Warther kitchen knives are easy to clean - just rinse in warm soap water and/or wipe off with a damp cloth. Dishwashers are not recommended because the kitchen knives will become dull when the hand ground edge comes in contact with your silverware and in turn, the kitchen knives will scratch the silverware. The handles will lose their luster and become grey with exposure to the harsh detergents, heat, and water of the dishwasher.
Storage
Kitchen Knives are best stored in counter blocks, wall holders, magnetic bars, or in any device that prevents the blades. edge from coming in contact with other utensils. Other utensils in a drawer will dull the fine cutting edge of your Warther kitchen knives.
Wood Cutting Boards are Best
What you cut on is almost as important as what you cut with. The cutting surface should not be so hard that it dulls the knife's edge. Corian, ceramic, and glass cutting boards are very hard and dull your kitchen knives. Some plastic cutting boards that are soft enough to see cut lines on are good, but a study at the University of Wisconsin-Madison indicates that plastic is more susceptible to bacteria growth than a wood cutting board. A good rule of thumb: If you cut on a wood cutting board, sharpen your kitchen knives once a year whether it needs it or not, if you cut on plastic, sharpen your kitchen knives once every two to four weeks and if you cut on ceramic or glass, sharpen your kitchen knives several times a week. Hardwood cutting boards are recommended to extend the life and sharpness of your kitchen knives.
Extra Care
The blades of your Warther kitchen knives are ground to a very fine cutting edge and should not be used for cutting bones. It is recommended that you should cut down and then around, rather than crack or cut the bones. A meat cleaver rather than your Warther kitchen knives should be used when cutting, chopping or prying frozen food or bones.
With easy care and proper storage your Warther kitchen knives will last a lifetime.
